Alum(num) update

for the Alumni Office of Pomona
College, and dearly, lovingly, for Caitlin Mahaffey

"Amar Shah ('04) is working, employed
as well, an Engineering Manager
at SoundCloud—yes, the SoundCloud app. And there
is Amar Chair of Berlin workers' Works
Council, the first elected, democratic
body representing workers at
the company.
"Amar Shah ('04),
still kicking, who didn't graduate, barely
made it out alive, scared you half
to death, is now a poet, publishing his
(their) work on SoundCloud. Amar Shah
is bald now, aren't we all?" No,
obviously not. But many people
are dead now. Bill Whedbee was my teacher,
the first one, on the Monday that began
the fall of two, the fall of twenty double
O. Bill, we loved you. Bill, the funniest
was when you stooped so low to grab another
piece of pizza, not disrupting our
plain view of Harry meeting Sally(, that's
what Emmy Petrick said).
Bill, I dedicate
this work to you. Would only you still with us,
just to say, "Yes, you did it. You finally
incarnated agape, logos, philia." Oh, Bill.

Please carry my regards to faculties
of Religion, Music, History, to Thomas
Flaherty
, Kenneth Wolf, Donna M
Di Grazia
: my humblest, deepest grat-
itude for all the lords' and ladies' grace.

—Amar Shah (Pomona College, '04)
